Delivering Good News

When I was in high school, I had the best after school job. I worked for the local florist shop. Each day I would pick up the floral arrangements that had been pre-ordered and prepared for that day. Then I would drive around my community delivering flowers to people. When I would walk into an office with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, people noticed. They paid attention. Everyone would look to see who they are for and celebrate as they were given to the intended recipient. The receiver was always happy to receive the gift. As soon as they realized the flowers were for them their faces would brighten and their posture changed. Not only was the person blessed but the whole office was impacted by the beauty of the gift and the thoughtfulness of the giver.

In two years of delivering flowers of all different styles to all different types of people, I never once had anyone be angry or upset to be given a gift. Even though I did not make the flowers or buy them, I found great satisfaction in being the messenger. I was excited to personally deliver the flowers and loved seeing their faces brighten. For me, delivering the gift was a gift.

Each day as believers in Christ we have the same opportunity. We carry within us the greatest gift, our God and Savior Jesus Christ. We carry good news of eternal life, joy, love and freedom. Just as Jesus brought us that gift personally, we have the privilege of sharing the gift with others. His Presence, His peace, His words, and His love. They are all a sweet aroma that changes people and shifts the atmosphere. We didn’t earn the gift. It was given freely to us from a loving Heavenly Father. We received what was freely given. We have the privilege of delivering the good news to others, sharing the gift of life and perfect love through Jesus our Savior.

What if we each saw our day as an opportunity to be messengers? What if we walked through our day ready to deliver the good news and took the opportunities given? Let the love of God and the sweet aroma of Christ flow through you in such a way that others notice and are drawn to Him.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place (2 Cor. 2:14).
