No one can know the number of ways God uses to complete a thing. Often, the way things unfold can look a whole lot different than what was first envisioned. It can feel surreal, this life handed to us unexpectedly – nothing like we had thought, with all the various mishaps that came along with it. This is tough to bear, and we are often distraught by situations and relationships handed to us. The more chaos and trauma that comes, the more we tend to forget Who has our best interest at heart.
We are problem solvers, yet the complexities of the circumstance are trying, especially when we are bent on controlling the outcome.
We end up worse than we could have ever imagined, and in time, end up more entangled in a mess. As believers, we pray, often begging Him to change another person or to get us out of the given situation.
So why then does that prayer not get answered?
The key is in the secret treasure God longs to release to us – in the middle of the mess. On the other side of the wounding, He stands ready, desirous, and longing for us to come to Him – to burst through.
Through is the key.
God believes in us so much that He gives us the hard work in discovery – to discover the treasure of Himself that is stored within the very problems He has given us. Proverbs 25:2 gives us a clue:
“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter."
Yes, God considers you and me royalty and has taken very seriously our enlistment as part of His Kingdom under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. When we focus on what we don’t have, what’s wrong, or just plain become complacent and apathetic, or give in to defeat, the enemy already has us. No need to do much more; the principle of sowing and reaping will take it from there.
Looking to find the ‘easier’ way, or succumb to the tale that “it’s all in the past, so just let go,” breaks our initiative and ability to grow towards a resolution. We may find our souls wallowing in past failures, all the while, the treasure lay just inches away. Loving the light of God’s plan takes courage, tenacity, and pressing in when everything else says to sit this one out.
One of the largest parts of my healing journey was when I firmly came face to face with God as He shared that the only way to abundant life was to love myself and Him enough to be willing to let Him take me through the light He was shining on a very wounded place. Only as I did the hard work of connecting with my own internal trauma could I learn to trust Him enough to let go of controlling the outcome, how it was to look, and who would stick around to see it.
To do this, we need a safe and trustworthy place to process, heal, and accept the fragile pieces that need to receive nurture and love beyond our human resources. God is able, and here’s my prayer as you, too, may be grappling with the ‘matter’ which has been ‘eating your lunch’. Perhaps that ‘matter’ could be a loved one, an employee, a family member lost, or other assigned condition.
Lord, I welcome You as the God of wisdom and might to come and cast Your abundant grace upon Your beloved child. Give them the courage to arise and set their face like flint toward the work of Your redemptive power in and through this problem Your hand has allowed. Hold their heart close and enlighten them with Your preserving power to show them how to soar with You above this chaos and confusion. Give Your child ‘eagle eyes’ … they're safe from the enemy’s grasp.
Speak to their hearts of Your deep, vast love of blessing and abundant grace awaiting them as they place their hand in Yours. Lead them to a space of beauty in discovery of Your plans, which are to give them and others a future and hope. Loosen their grip from any bitter expectations where control has them bound.
It is in Your name, as King of Glory, Savior over Heaven and earth, Ancient of Days, whose love never fails. I hear His word say, “Justice is MINE.”
Remove all traces of fear that do not represent a true and perfect love for Your child, Lord. Help their heart receive abundance when all seems lost. Amen
