Miracles When You Least Expect Them

A friend shared recently that she and her family were headed out of the country on a mission trip. They had been praying, fundraising, and preparing in every way possible and felt well prepared. Just a couple of days before they were to leave, they had two unexpected but urgent needs for provision - one was a large financial need, and one was a passport problem. My friend shares that she knew God had called them and provided so clearly for this mission trip up to that point, so she pressed into prayer and kept asking God for His help.

She did not post the need on Facebook. She did not send out an email. She prayed. One answer came through a friend that day who "felt led by God to give her a check" for a specific amount. That provision provided what was needed to meet their unexpected need. The final answer came just hours before boarding for their flight, despite long lines, through the kindness of one person in the passport office. Even though they were told it was impossible - God made a way. After being told that their passport would not be available in time, their child's passport became available at the last possible moment. The miracle increased their faith that God would provide the remaining needed miracle. The miracle made way for more miracles. What a way to start a mission trip!

This recent testimony is a reminder that God still does miracles! He does what we cannot do in making a way where there isn't one. Opening closed doors. Provision or favor at just the time. Supernatural protection.

Merriam Webster defines miracles as: an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs; an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing or accomplishment.

The word the Lord gave me this year is Miracles. He highlighted this message during the Christmas season as I was reading the Christmas story (isn't it cool how we can keep learning new things from the same passages of Scripture we have read hundreds of times?!) I was reading in Luke 1 about the miracle conception of Elizabeth, who was well past childbearing years. Certainly, she had been told by doctors, friends and family that she would never conceive. It was impossible. It was too late. Yet God...announces to Zechariah by an angel that she will have a son. A special child who would make ready a people for the Lord. He was a miracle birth making way for the greatest miracle birth of Jesus to Mary who was a virgin. A miracle preparing the way for a miracle.

A miracle is not something you order up from God. We don't tell Him how to do it. We simply keep pressing into Him when we have a need, like my friend, and look for Him to provide the way forward. It doesn't come the way you expect. It doesn't look like you would have thought to ask for it. It is so much better!

The Lord highlighted this and said this is a Year of Miracles. God is moving in our families, cities and nations. The miracles make way for the greatest miracle, the Presence of God dwelling within people in personal relationship with Him. This brings awakening, revival and the birthing of new ministries, businesses and products for His Kingdom. Lord let Your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.

There will be Miracles!
